She’ll help add clarity on what policy looks like to align companies bottom line with our wellbeing, and steps needed to bring that policy in place. In the second portion of the night, where we will break out into groups to brainstorm next steps around how we as a community can influence the political decision makers, and how the get the data and clinical studies in place that’ll drive the policy forward.About the speaker:Nina Vasan, while in high school, lobbied for the landmark corporate tobacco settlement, keeping $1.9 billion for healthcare and prevention efforts in her home state of West Virginia. She later served on the Obama presidential campaign’s healthcare policy advisory committee. She is currently a practicing psychiatrist and runs Brainstorm, Stanford University's Lab for Mental Health Innovation, and works with tech companies like Pinterest to create health and wellness improving products for billions of people. Her vision has been instrumental in shaping the Future of Wellness Policy strategy.About the host:Dan Seider was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while in his second year of college. Committed to improving his wellbeing, he spent the next 5 years building software to automatically track his mood and help him learn how his activities (like browsing Facebook vs. going to the gym) impact him. Dan and Eugene Shvarts released an automatic mood tracker 2 months ago, which acts like a Fitbit for emotional health. Their aim is to use this tool to help measure the increases in mental health care costs and generate data that can be used to back the regulation that Future of Wellness Policy aims to bring forth, aligning companies bottom line with our wellbeing.~~~~~In the fireside chat we’ll discuss the various policies we are considering bringing into law and the steps we can take to achieving them. We will share Nina’s experience shaping policy in the past, and her work with large technology companies today to positively impact our wellbeing. Afterwards, we’ll split into facilitated groups to explore the actions we can take. The groups will range from:- Clinical research: to plan how to shape a study that connects data on app/web usage to increases in mental health care costs),- Online-presence: to put a public face to this community, and enable others to join the movement),- Data-science: i.e. to analyze available data to learn how app/website usage impacts wellbeing), - Outreach: to spread the word through press, influencers, and politicians). We’ll share our individual perspectives and collaborate on what we can do as individuals and as a community to move our goals forward. We were able to host the last event because of the 14 members of our team that helped with operations on the day of (and we had fun doing so!), If you’re interested in taking a leadership role for this event please send Jon a message at jon@contuity.com or on Facebook.
